ADSL is an acronym for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line , and is the best, most cost effective way to access the internet in South Africa at present.
First you will need a DSL line, from Telkom. These lines are available in various speeds, but for most people's needs the smallest, 384kbps, will suffice. For most users, is is not necessary to get a faster line, as the speed difference is hardly noticeable when using the internet only for browsing, and emails. Next, you need an ISP to provide you with access. This is often referred to a the CAP. This is the limit of how much downloading (and uploading) you will be able to do before the CAP is reached. When the CAP is reached, you will be blocked from accessing any websites untill you buy a top-up, or untill you are credited with more CAP the following month. We are dealers for Jenny Internet, and are able to provide you with a CAP, as well as to assist you by ordering your DSL line on your behalf. In our experience, our applications are prccessed faster than applying at a Telkom Direct office yourself. |
